District Nurses

District Nurses are qualified nurses with further specialised training and are experienced in provision of nursing care in the community. District Nurses help housebound patients, bedridden patients and patients requiring post operative care.

District Nurses are part of the NHS community health services and they work closely with G.Ps, Practice Nurses, Health Visitors,  Social Workers.  You can get access to your District Nurse through your G.P. surgery or health clinic.


The principle roles of a District Nursing team are:

•Assessment of patient’s and carers’ needs, and the provision of a skilled nursing  care to meet that need.
Planning of care programs with agreed objectives that are set in partnership with patients and their family/carers that aim towards either:

a) A full recovery

b) Enabling individuals to maximise their quality of life within the limits of their disease

Or

           c) Providing dignity and peace for the terminally ill
