Health Visitors are qualified nurses with further specialised training and are experienced in child health, health promotion and health education. Health Visitors help families with young children.
Health Visitors are part of the NHS community health services and they work closely with G.Ps, Practice Nurses, District Nurses, School Health Nurses, Midwives, Social Workers and School Teachers. You can get access to your Health Visitor through your G.P surgery or health clinic.
Every family with children under five years has a named health visitor. They advise parents on their child's:

safety in and outside the home common illnesses |

· |
healthy eating |
|
· |
everyday difficulties e.g. teething, sleeping, feeding, temper tantrums where to find child minders, toddler groups, playgroups, day nurseries offer continuing support |

· |
appropriate child care if you are returning to work |
|
· |
put you in touch with other sources of help |
